Week 30 : From Different Angles

With the recent installation of the Aquino's new fan, the overall design was now subject to adjustments. As the fan is actually installed above the chassis bringing air in, this would mean that the internal structure of the chassis should guide air to the circuitry of the Aquino and eject warm air opposite of the fan. To do so, James and I have created a quick slope of sorts to sit right under the fan. The slope itself is constructed from several layers of cardboard which were than shellacked with hodge-podge (a popular sealant for arts and crafts) creating a dense but light build. As it is directly under the fan, cold air will trail along the slope and push warm air up and out as the cold air has both momenta behind it and is denser to push the warm air out.

As of today it is installed in the corner of the Aquino as seen in the top photo and has received a makeover with the rest of the shell now sporting a periwinkle hue (it was the only spray paint we could find). Though a new coat does tie up everything to make the chassis look like one cohesive unit, it is also to deter some heat absorption as the solid black color of the chassis was already susceptible to heat. Periwinkle was not James' nor I's first pick, but it being a lighter color will help the Aquino's overall internal temperature by a significant amount. It is currently drying in the lab, and I hope to post pics of it soon!

  1. I'm still not going to get over that our color of choice was periwinkle, because how are we supposed to describe our Aquino as periwinkle with a straight face. But honestly it doesn't look bad, and the cardboard ramp came out better than expected. In the future, a redesign for the chassis might be the next course of action.
